About us

Dance Society are one of the biggest societies on campus, offering a wide variety of opportunities to all our members. From competitions to shows, classes to socials, Dance Society welcomes everyone no matter your level of experience.

We offer weekly classes in a variety of styles including ballet, tap, commercial and contemporary. We hold workshops and collaborations with other societies across campus.

All members are encouraged to participate in our termly showcases and there are opportunities to audition for our competition teams who go on to compete at universities around the UK. As well as this, we hold regular themed socials throughout the year from SU night pres to coffee mornings.

We are proud to support the Forest Estate Community Hub through our volunteering scheme, something all our members are encouraged to get involved in. We look forward to welcoming new and returning members to our Dance Society family!

Standard membership allows you to attend any class throughout the year. Membership fees go towards our termly showcases and the hiring of rehearsal spaces.

Competition memberships are additionally required if you are selected to be on any of our competition teams. This additional fee covers costs including transport and competition entries. Competition dancers also have the option to purchase a competition jacket, something that is a separate cost to the membership fee. In order to buy a competition membership, dancers must already have purchased a standard membership.

Events and Activities

Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19, some of our events may be slightly different this year. However, we aim to offer:

  • Weekly dance classes in a variety of styles.
  • Regular socials and fundraisers.
  • Termly showcases.
  • Competition team auditions and opportunities to compete at various universities around the UK.
  • Home competition.
  • Weekly volunteering opportunities.

As a society, we will adhere to social distancing guidelines meaning some of our events may take place virtually on platforms such as Zoom.
