About us
Dance Society is one of the biggest societies on campus. We welcome everyone no matter your level of dance experience.
We currently offer classes in: ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, commercial, hip hop, strength and conditioning, felxibility, yoga, and dance fitness. We also hold workshops with industry professionals and collaborate with other societies on campus throughout the year.
All members are encouraged to participate in our termly showcases and there are opportunities to audition for our competition teams who go on to compete at universities around the UK. As well as this, we hold regular socials throughout the year from coffee mornings to themed parties and day trips.
We are proud to support the Forest Estate Community Hub through our volunteering scheme, something all our members are encouraged to get involved in. We also fundraise for the organisation throughout the year, as well as for our nominated charity, Ballet Black. We look forward to welcoming new and returning members to our Dance Society family!
Membership
Standard membership allows you to attend all open classes throughout the year. Membership fees go towards our termly showcases and the hiring of rehearsal spaces. If you would like to be involved in any of our showcases it will be required that you purchase a standard membership (rather than PAYG) for insurance purposes.
Competition memberships are additionally required if you are selected to be on any of our competition teams. This additional fee covers all competition-related costs including costumes, transport to external competitions, and competition entry fees, and varies depending on the number of teams you are on to accomodate for more/less costumes. Competition dancers also have the option to purchase a competition jacket, something that is a separate cost to the membership fee. Please note that in order to buy a competition membership, dancers must already have purchased a standard membership.
New for this year, we offer a social membership. It is great for dancers who want to bring flatmates, friends and partners who do not want to dance to our social events. If you buy a standard membership you do NOT need to purchase this to attend the social events.
If you would like to pay as you go, each class is £1. Our PAYG membership only covers classes/non-professional workshops, so if you are planning to join us at any socials, you will need a Standard or Social Membership.
