Josh Barker here! rhubarbTV’s Station Manager for 2018/19. I’m looking forward to this year seeing where I can take this student TV station after being a member for two years. I’ll be working alongside my partner in crime and Assistant Station Manager Eshan Puri who will hopefully keep me on track! The station is going to start off big this year, chosen by NaSTA (National Student TV Association) to represent Student TV across the country this year in one big live stream this October, so stay tuned for that and get involved!
Why you should join I hear you ask? Like most societies there are many reasons for joining a society, maybe it’s the funky free stuff at the freshers stall, the cool looking equipment on display, you might have an actual interest in film and TV or you just want to try something new and fun? Anyone is welcome to join rhubarbTV, and who knows, it might be the start of something new! I mean I joined seven societies in my first year and look where I am now!
Hey reader! My name is Eshan and I am the new Assistant Head of rhubarbTV alongside my good friend and extremely annoying housemate, Josh Barker (Films). We’ve got a bunch of cool things planned for this year and so if you are someone interested in creating video content, whether you want to be; behind the camera, presenting, editing or even recording audio (in which case I wish you good luck!) rhubarb is the place to be.
So why should you join rhubarbTV you ask. Great question I say to that. Almost everyone has a favourite TV show, a favourite film and generally Film and Television play a huge part in our lives now. So, if you’ve ever had the urge to make, or wondered what that creative experience may be like, as the good ol’ Lord Kitchiner poster goes, ‘rhubarbTV Wants You!’ For myself and Josh, our big focus of this year is to make sure our members have chances to take part in a range of activities. Last year we had two of the biggest student productions ever, in our live streams of Fight Night and Varsity. These are the kind of opportunities we offer, and they would look fantastic on your CV. We are always looking for keen and enthusiastic people to help on our productions. Our members receive training in all types of equipment, even if you are not a media arts student. To me, rhubarbTV offers our members the chance to broaden their horizons, and our aim is that member’s experience as a part of the TV station will help contribute to their development throughout their university journey.
Before you are able to use any rhubarbTV equipment or take part in our activities you will need to paid your rhubarbTV membership for this academic year. You can pay by selecting ‘rhubarbTV Standard Membership’ on the join section of this page.
In addition to the ‘rhubarbTV Standard Membership’, as a member you may add-on ‘Equipment Booking’ to your membership. This is a one off fee that is added to your standard membership and allows you to book out rhubarbTV equipment for personal non rhubarbTV related projects. These projects must only take place on Royal Holloway campus, but gives members creative freedom to make films outside of the society if they wish to do so. NOTE: This equipment fee is not needed too be able to use rhubarbTV equipment on rhubarbTV productions.
