About Us
Ultimate Frisbee is a fast-paced, non-contact team sport that's either played indoor 5v5 or outdoor 7v7.
The rules of the game are quite simple:
- You can't walk or run when you're holding the disc.
- Points are scored when the disc is caught inside the end-zone.
- If the disc hits the ground, the other team gain possession regardless of who touched it last.
- The disc can be intercepted, or caught outside the pitch, to cause a turnover of possession.
- The teams change ends after each point.
- Play resumes when the scoring team from the previous point "pulls" the disc to their opposition.
- Unlimited substitutions can be made at the end of each point.
Something that's slightly different is that Ultimate has no referees, so players will have to decide on fouls and violations amongst themselves. Because of this, Ultimate players are some of the most friendly, honest, and well-spirited sportspeople.
Our club is very welcoming, no matter your skill level - from never holding a disc before to outplaying the most experienced player on our team. This sport is an excellent way to keep active and meet new people in a welcoming environment.
Membership
The membership includes trainings, socials and competitive matches/leagues that allow you to compete in fixtures for London Universities Sports Leagues (LUSL), British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS), and Varsity Matches. This is just at the price of £30!!
Your membership fee will go towards the smooth running of the club which includes travel and new equipment. We are a very open and dedicated club that is excited to invite and welcome new players to join us this year and become stronger as teammates and as friends.
Fear not, if you are a community member or alumni you can still come and train with us & play in club competitions!
Membership will be £50 for those in the community/alumni.
Events and Activities
During the year, the club takes part in many activities. Typically, we have training sessions two times a week with a regular post-training stop at The Armstrong Gun.
During the first term, we compete in BUCS tournaments as a mixed and men's indoor team. In the second term, we compete against our alumni members and in Varsity. Across the full year we also compete in the London-based LUSL league with home and away matches with London Universities. We also raise awareness for Cameron Grant Memorial Trust for mental health illness as we want to commemorate one of our alumni players.
Our club is still very new and is always creating new events and ideas to make the atmosphere of our club very spirited and open-minded.
This year, the club is going on tour for the first time to Portugal during the Easter Break (2nd - 6th April). There are still some tickets, so get in contact with our socials to find out more!
