Candidate for President

Hi! I’m Hannah and I’m running to be your next President.

As the current Vice President Societies and Sport, I have established strong relationships within the SU and the university. I know the determination that is required to be President and fight for the change you want to see at Royal Holloway.

My aims for 2023/24:

1. Student safety

I know how important it is to feel safe on a night out so I will continue the work with security reviews but implement reviews termly. I want to see change so I will ensure feedback is acted on. Other measures such as spiking awareness training for security and increased safety messaging in SU venues should also be in place.

I intend to review the misconduct policies and complaint procedures that the SU has. SU transparency is fundamental therefore I will work with students to review the policies.

2. Campus facilities

Tired of parking off campus? Do you want improved sports facilities? Waiting in the rain at Founders bus stop?

I will ensure the university is investing money into relevant projects that will positively contribute to the student experience. I plan to work with the Disabled Students Collective and Commuting Students Collective to identify how campus can be an accessible and safer place.

3. GP Surgery & Wellbeing Services

Time after time, we are hearing informal complaints about the GP surgery and Wellbeing Services. It’s time we do something about it! Royal Holloway is constantly expanding and so should the support and services available.

I will be refocusing student mental health and wellbeing. To achieve this, I will work closely with the VP Wellbeing and Diversity to run a range of well-being campaigns such as Sexual Health Awareness Week and Alcohol Awareness Week.

4. Your Education

Policies regarding extenuating circumstances (ECs) are changing every year. I intend to collaborate with the VP Education, to ensure ECs applications are reviewed regularly so students aren’t waiting until summer for outcomes. I aim to lobby the university for the automatic extension length to be increased. Students should also be provided with transparency about academic misconduct and their academic rights.

Over the last six months, I have shown how dedicated I am to improving student experience here at Royal Holloway. And I’m now ready to advocate for positive change as your President!
