Changing Room Upgrade

If you are a frequent user of the changing room facilities at the Sports Centre, you'll be fully aware of the downtrodden and bland state they have found themselves in after many years of use. The middle changing room is mostly rendered useless and the toilets have been calling out for refurbishment for some time.

Well, you’ll be excited to hear this issue is being addressed! You will be welcomed back in September to brand spanking new changing room facilities inside the Sports Centre thanks to a significant investment. Both the men’s and women’s toilets are going to be stripped down to the bare bones and built back up with brand new toilets, changing areas and vanity units.

As well as updates to the flooring, toilets, lockers, lighting and showers, and the addition of dry cubicle changing for extra privacy, each changing room will grow in size significantly. The middle changing room is going to be opened up and split in half so that each space will be elongated. This will allow for a more spacious changing and showering experience.

We also appreciate that after you have showered, it can be quite frustrating trudging into the toilet area to make use of the mirrors and wash basins. Therefore, vanity units are being installed into a ‘wet-room’ space near the showers so that the changing room floors and toilet floors stay clear of being soaked, making for a better overall experience. These areas will also be kitted out with hairdryers to make sure you come out of the area feeling fresh and ready to go!

As a frequent user of this space, I am over the moon that these changes are being made. Students have been crying out for improvements to this space for some time, so it is fantastic to see some action being taken. The works, which are already underway, are expected to take place over July and August with work finishing by Monday 16 September, in time for students arriving back for the new academic year. Over this renovation time, users will be directed to the pavilion for showers, toilets and changing rooms.

We are excited to see more investment made into these facilities and we will be sure to keep you updated through Students' Union and Royal Holloway Sport social media channels.
