Congratulations to all our newly-elected student group committee members! Next week, we're running a series of vital training sessions to give you all the information you need to prepare your group for the next academic year.
Congratulations on becoming an elected committee member in this year’s Student Group Elections! We hope you’re excited for the year ahead where you'll gain valuable experience and set the direction for your student group over the next 12 months. We're looking forward to working with you and seeing the great things you go on to achieve with your groups!
On Thursday 25 and Friday 26 May, we will be holding some invaluable Student Group Training sessions, where you will receive the information you need to get through the summer as a committee and prepare for the beginning of Term One. These sessions will introduce you to the Student Opportunities team, who will explain how to help run your groups, whether that be setting your memberships and keeping on top of your finances, managing your fixtures, putting on events, and how to spend your group funds. Some of the sessions are mandatory for certain roles, and all of the sessions should be attended by at least one representative of your committee. We will then follow up in the autumn term with some refreshers as well some more in-depth sessions for Term One and beyond.
Sessions will be delivered in person in EWD-104, and recorded so that the content is available online for future reference.
Treasurer Training (10:30 - 12:00)
This session will provide all treasurers with a detailed understanding of their responsibilities and the processes involved with student group finances. This includes how the different accounts work, how you can spend money using expense claims, invoices and purchase requests, and how money can be paid into your group account. This session will also go over how you can apply for funding from the Students’ Union, explain how to create a budget sheet, and set your membership prices.
Introduction to Sports Clubs (13:00 - 14:30)
This session will introduce you to some of the more sport specific aspects of running your sports vlub, including facility allocation and fixtures, coaching, competitions, kit, and health & safety as well as providing an opportunity to meet both the Student Opportunities and Active Lifestyle & Sport (ALS) teams.
Running Your Student Group (15:00-16:30)
This session will cover some essential tasks and processes to be carried out over the summer that will enable your committee to hit the ground running for the 2023/24 academic year. We will also share a timeline of the key dates over the next few months and provide an overview of Governance and Democracy, Codes of Conduct, Freshdesk, Resource Booker, Google Drive, finances and events. *The same session will also be running on Friday.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Training (10:30-12:00)
This session will cover ways that you can make your group accessible to all and how you can support and empower members from diverse backgrounds to get involved with your activities.
